Winter Energy Payment

Overview

Winter Energy Payment NZ provides winter heating support to people receiving a qualifying benefit or pension. It is not a separate heating allowance that everyone can claim.

Eligibility points to check

You must receive a qualifying benefit or pension and meet residence and other conditions. Heating costs alone do not qualify you. Normally paid from 1 May to 1 October.

Paid automatically if eligible; no separate application. Contact Work and Income about problems.

Have identity and residence details, income or asset information, and any relevant medical, tenancy, care or study evidence ready. The official application page decides the exact documents required.
